A foundation for the future. Made by McGill.

McGill Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Suzanne Fortier

The year 2021 will mark McGill’s 200th anniversary. To achieve such a milestone is an extraordinary accomplishment and a testament to the vision of those who came before us: the founders and builders who set our path long ago, and the generations of creative and ambitious leaders who followed. They were prepared to advocate for our great University and invest in it generously, year after year, decade after decade.

But this milestone in McGill’s history also comes at a moment of extraordinary disruption for communities and societies. In a shrinking world, where climate change, infectious disease, conflict, human migration, and resource imbalances cross borders, what kind of institution will pioneer practical and lasting solutions? If three or five years from now, many of the skills required for the world’s jobs are entirely new, how can universities prepare students to shape the future?

Turning today’s challenges into opportunities demands a profound redefinition of the role of a global university in the 21st century. Knowing that we can count on the support of our worldwide community of alumni, friends and supporters – following in the footsteps of those who have come before us and who have built McGill into what it is today – gives us the resolve and confidence to position McGill for the future.

As we look towards the next 200 years in the extraordinary and unfolding story of McGill, we ask you to join us and help build a foundation for a brighter future – a future made by you and made by McGill.
