As a graduate student, (Master of Science, 1975-78), alumnus, and staff member (1987-present), I have had the opportunity to learn, grow and contribute not only at McGill but in the community at large. For half a century, I have inspired others, raised hope, promoted scientific achievement and above all volunteered to create a more just, balanced and sustainable world nationally and internationally.

I am a multidisciplinary scientist, accredited as a Certified Food Scientist (CFS, USA), Occupational Health and Safety Professional (CRSP, Canada), and Professional Chemist (P.Chem. Quebec, Canada). Many of my success stories – such as the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers from the Governor General (Canada, 2020), the BCRSP Recognition Award (Canada, 2019), the IFSTA Hedayat’s International Food Scientist of the Year Award (Iran, 2019), McGill’s inaugural Sustainable Labs Award (Canada, 2018), the McGill Principal’s Award for Administrative and Support Staff (Canada, 2014) and others – have been made possible through my experiences at the University.

I have come to the conclusion that it is not about the size of our triumphs or failures. If we cannot be the sun, we can be a star by being the best at whatever we do and by giving back in many different ways to society to empower others as future leaders.

I am proud to be a McGillian.
