It is well known that education is key to success. McGill provided me not only with the opportunity to become a strong and determined professional but also made me a passionate volunteer leader.
Finding the right balance between academic responsibilities and commitment to extra-curricular activities when I was a doctoral student at McGill definitely shaped me in many ways.
As I was developing my critical thinking through science and research, I also managed to acquire many soft skills as part of the Executive Committee of the Macdonald Campus Graduate Student Society, which truly helped me when entering the workforce.
When at McGill, it was an honour to receive on two occasions the Dairy Farmers of Canada Research Award for my doctoral studies and contributions to dairy science, and the Macdonald Campus Gold Key Award, given to worthy students in recognition of their outstanding contribution to extra-curricular activities.
I am very thankful to my professors and former peers for their guidance, motivation and friendship. Thank you to my family for their support.
After graduating, I have continued with my leadership path built at McGill. Besides work, I am a volunteer leader with various groups, whether at the student, professional or community level. Being the President of the Mex Y Can Association of Manitoba Inc and Chair of the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology, Manitoba Chapter have been a very rewarding personal and professional experiences.
In 2019, I was honoured with being included as part of the Personalities Wall permanent exhibit at the Manitoba Museum, which showcases 30 individuals in Winnipeg’s history from the 1870s to the present, who are part of the fabric of our community.
My experience at McGill influenced and inspired me to be the person I am today.
