Take advantage of a tax-smart way to support McGill by donating publicly traded stocks and securities directly to the University. You’ll receive a charitable tax receipt for the fair market value of the gift, and you won’t pay tax on any capital gain. To make your gift of securities for 2020, please note that you must provide McGill with the Donations Securities form below and have initiated the electronic transfers of securities with a broker no later than Monday, December 21, 2020.
- The capital gain inclusion rate is zero when eligible stock or securities are donated directly to McGill. If you sell the shares and donate the proceeds, you will be required to pay capital gains.
- The value of your charitable tax receipt will be based on the value of the securities as of the close of trading, on the date the shares are received by McGill University.
- US Residents: The amount of the receipt will be based on the mean value of the highest and lowest selling price of the securities on the date they are received by McGill University.
