My best memory at McGill that really lifted me happened when I was finishing my clinical year – second year in dental school. At the time, Dr. Ernie Ambrose was the head of the operative department and highly revered. I was coming out of a lab and walking down the hallway. I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned to see that Dr. Ambrose was stopping me. He shared with me that the school received a grant from the government to be able to provide free dental services that upcoming summer to children in need. There were only a handful of positions available for students. Dr. Ambrose offered me the opportunity and I jumped at it. It was the biggest moment for me. This was a very pivotal point in my education. This was a sign of acceptance, that I had arrived, that I was respected.
