As someone who grew up in Ottawa, the profession I was most familiar with was public service. However, from an early age, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in the world of business. I chose to study economics and obtained an undergrad degree in commerce and finance at the University of Ottawa.
When it came time to pursue a graduate degree in business, I had my sights set on McGill. I was attracted by its international prestige, and I knew that an MBA from the Desautels Faculty of Management would open doors and kick start my career.
Once at McGill, I was blown away by the academic caliber of my fellow students. I made many wonderful friends with whom I remain in touch. The qualities that come with living in Montreal also added to my fond McGill memories.
After earning my MBA, I joined Bell Canada, and became an associate director involved in complex telecommunications contracts. I then joined HDR (a design firm specializing in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services) as associate vice president and managing principal economist. As HDR’s practice group leader for Sustainable Return on Investment (S-ROI), I was responsible for managing teams conducting economic and financial studies for clients across North America.
In partnership with one of HDR largest shareholders, I went on to co-found Autocase in 2014. The firm, which is headquartered in New York, formalized the first automated Triple Bottom Line Cost Benefit Analysis (TBL-CBA) software. As chief operating officer, I am a key member of the executive team, providing sustainability solutions to clients for virtually any type of building or infrastructure project at all levels of government and the private sector all across North America.
The growing complexity of sustainability issues has always been a key concern and motivator throughout my studies and career. I am a firm believer that economics and business can contribute to building a better world.
