Student wellness is vital to success

A better future starts with wellness

Alice Hollis is passionate about the work she does at McGill’s Student Wellness Hub. The communications associate strives to give students the tools to boost their mental and physical wellbeing during their time at McGill in her role at the Student Wellness Hub.

The stakes are high, to be sure. Youth mental health is the single biggest challenge facing society today, according to the World Economic Forum. The organization’s 2020 Global Framework on Youth Mental Health found that more than half of all young people experience at least one period of mental ill-health by the time they turn 25.

It’s important to ensure that networks of support are in place for students.”

University is a time of major change and growth. Young people are embarking on careers, finding new communities, expanding their entire worlds. That’s exciting and enlightening, but it also comes with personal challenges, and sometimes even crises. It’s important to ensure that networks of support are in place for students. That we offer compassion, empathy, care and understanding.

At McGill, the Student Wellness Hub works to support students in this way, operating as a contact point for McGillians in need.

The Student Wellness Hub’s services are available to all students, and that means that donor support can play a remarkable role in ensuring the continued success of such vital initiatives, from providing community spaces to producing playful videos on sexual health to hosting animal therapy sessions. It’s amazing what just an hour spent with pet dogs, brought in for a visit by volunteers, can do for a student’s mental health and outlook.
