As a mature student, wife, and mother of four, I left a full-time career as a hospital social service worker to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. For me, teaching is a calling. I want to uplift those from communities like my own, especially BIPOC and neurodivergent students.
Without financial aid, this would have been close to impossible. Financial support allowed me to stay focused, pay for essential needs, and dedicate myself fully to my studies and field placements.
Throughout my studies, various campus resources supported both my academic progress and well-being. During stressful periods, I visited the Student Wellness Hub, where I received guidance and access to financial and academic support services. I participated in the McGill Black Mentorship Program and volunteered with the Summer Bridge Literacy Program, which deepened my understanding of inclusive education.
After graduation, I plan to teach, advocating for accessible education and creating inclusive, supportive classroom spaces.
I am the first woman in my maternal family to attend university. I aim to inspire my children to view education as a pathway to transformation. Donor support not only changed my life, it helped change my family for generations to come.
