On Tuesday, May 7, 2019, Principal and Vice-Chancellor Suzanne Fortier, BSc’72, PhD’76, hosted Afternoon Tea with the Principal. The Mount Royal Club provided an intimate setting for this signature event, which is held annually for members of the McGill 1821 Society and the Macdonald Legacy Society.
Both societies honour those who have remembered McGill University through a bequest or a planned gift. In addition to invitations to McGill events, members receive a personalized membership certificate signed by the Principal and a commemorative pin.
Guest speakers included John Rea, former Dean of the Schulich School of Music. He described his time at McGill as “perhaps the greatest, single important event” in his life," which inspired him to make a legacy gift that established the John Rea Travel Award for music composition students.
Chancellor Michael Meighen, BA’60, LLD’12, Greville Smith Scholar Ella Sahlas, BSc’21, and the event’s master of ceremonies Michael Richards, BA’60, BCL’63, all spoke to the extraordinary ambitions of McGill's students and graduates. Live music was provided by students from the Schulich School of Music.
