Education is the foundation for everything else

I give to make a positive change.

In my life, I have been extremely lucky. I was born in a democratic and supportive country, and I’ve had access to a quality education. Millions of children around the world don’t have the same opportunities. Education, in my mind, is the foundation for everything else.

So when I hear devastating news from around the world, I don’t get mad. Instead, I try to make a positive change in whatever small way I can. That’s what led me to create a volunteer foundation to support girls’ education in the Global South.

It’s also why I donate to McGill’s Canada Award program.

When I learned that students from outside of Quebec were facing tuition increases of $3,000 per year, I knew that many young people were going to lose out on the chance to get a McGill education – and that McGill, and Quebec, would lose out on those students.

When students from across Canada come to McGill, they bring their unique perspectives and talents. In return, they gain a better understanding of Quebec society. And in the long-term, their time spent here at McGill has economic, social and political benefits for the province.

The Canada Award is an important way to make students from across Canada feel welcome in Quebec. By donating to this program, I know I’m supporting access to a quality education that will not only change a student’s trajectory and career, but also impact their family and community.

And they will always carry their McGill experience with them.
