The Canada Award is the reason I am at McGill today.
McGill was my dream university, both because of its location and its reputation. When I was deciding where to go for university, I visited Montreal and fell in love with the city. The fact that McGill is highly regarded for its science program was also a key factor. I knew McGill could provide me with the courses, experiences and academic standards I was looking for.
But with high tuition, living costs and moving across the country from Alberta, it wouldn’t have been feasible for me to attend McGill without the Canada Award. The financial burden would have simply been too much.
I’m now in my first year of a Bachelor of Science degree. I love science – I love how you can find answers and test hypotheses through experimentation, and I love how the field is constantly evolving.
In particular, I’m fascinated by the human brain. After graduating, my goal is to apply to medical school and ultimately go into surgery or neurology.
But for now, I’m just enjoying being a McGill student. My favourite part is the amazing city and beautiful campus I get to study at! I am constantly discovering new things about Montreal, and I love how there is always something to do or see.
Receiving the Canada Award means I can afford to study at my dream university and live in the city I love.
