When I started my mechanical engineering studies at McGill, I scanned the list of required courses I’d have to take to get my degree. What began as a prerequisite class evolved into a true passion for the field – I switched majors to focus on software engineering – and an awareness of a whole new range of possibilities.
I am grateful to McGill for the “requirement” to explore different areas of engineering, especially since I had already chosen what I thought I wanted to study. While intended to help future engineers gain a high-level understanding of different kinds of engineering, the requirement led me to my specialty, one that energizes me and piques my curiosity at every turn.
