I was inspired to study in a city that was artistic and multicultural. I loved knowing that the campus was the heartbeat of Montreal, and that I could have the best of both worlds through a strong campus culture and city life. I knew McGill’s BCom was one of the hardest programs to get into in Canada, and I set that goal for myself knowing that if I was fortunate enough to be accepted, I would be challenged for four years surrounded by the creativity and intelligence of the other students.
Diversity was one monumental thing that stood out for me about McGill – the diversity of opinions, students, experiences. I was excited by the opportunity and openness to learn from others who were different than me. I was constantly amazed by the professors and the way they challenged students to apply textbook knowledge to real-life scenarios. Inspired by the opportunity I had to learn from students from other faculties and countries, I felt ready to apply my education to work after I graduated.
Growing up surrounded by ambitious, entrepreneurial women, I always knew I wanted to pursue a business degree, which is why I majored in Finance. This foundation has been incredibly important to my creative career as I have been able to build my business from the ground up and understand all aspects of my company from design to accounting. My business education taught me a lot of entrepreneurial skills and the importance of community and connecting with others.
In a time of crisis, I believe it is a priority to work together to serve the needs of the community. In March, my company launched our #MakeAMask Campaign, which to date has raised the funds to produce nearly 30,000 face masks for healthcare workers.”
I absolutely love Montreal and felt very connected to the city when I studied there. As a self-proclaimed art nerd, I love all the museums, galleries, and people-watching the city has to offer. I’m intrigued by the city’s different neighborhoods and love that you can experience vastly different communities in one city.
My mom has always encouraged my creativity and entrepreneurial pursuits, inspiring me to find a career at the cross section of art and commerce. I particularly love fashion because its foundation is in storytelling and connecting with community. Color, painting, and design are my methods of communication, and I find it most rewarding when I can empower someone through my work.
In a time of crisis, I believe it is a priority to work together to serve the needs of the community. In March, my company launched our #MakeAMask Campaign, which to date has raised the funds to produce nearly 30,000 face masks for healthcare workers to alleviate the strain on N95 masks needed for doctors and nurses in direct contact with COVID-19 patients. Produced domestically in factories outside of New York and Toronto (my two home cities), these masks have been distributed to hospitals and healthcare organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
