I was drawn to McGill University for its reputation, its history, and my pursuit of a scientific path. Coming from rural Vermont, I was equally drawn in by the climate-familiar and approachable city of Montreal and McGill’s place at the heart of it.

Our first rooftop greenhouse was built by spring, with the vision of sustainably growing food where people live, and we’ve since grown to a team of hundreds and a community of thousands.”

Throughout my undergrad, I loved the labs, found all the perfect study nooks, and honed my study method to keep up with the rigour of biochemistry. The key thing I took away from my McGill experience was a very strong foundation in science and how to analytically approach problems.

I co-founded Lufa Farms within a year of graduating and applied every bit of this foundation in figuring out our responsible agriculture methods. The incredible profs at Mac campus were also pivotal during this time. Our first rooftop greenhouse was built by spring, with the vision of sustainably growing food where people live, and we’ve since grown to a team of hundreds and a community of thousands.

You can approach, and solve, any problem with first principles thinking, and you can pursue a career in virtually any field this way. McGill provided me with the hard science and analytical mindset, that very jumping off point I needed.
