We chose to study at McGill because of its strong academic reputation and urban, walkable location by forested Mount Royal.
Our profs at McGill exposed us to many new angles on life and society, helping us grow a sense of where the world needs to go and how to get it there.”
Meanwhile, our strongest McGill memories include launching our band, The Lovely Feathers, at Open Air Pub. As we toured North America after we graduated, we were struck by the lack of convenient, healthy and affordable food.
The economic pull of Toronto led us both to the city, but Montreal’s vibrancy has also pulled us back. We opened our first Kupfert & Kim restaurant in the PATH underground network in First Canadian Place in 2013 just after New Year’s and within a few weeks we couldn’t keep up and were running out of food.
We opened four more in the financial district, sit-down locations at Spadina and Richmond and in Yorkville, and two locations in Montreal. We also launched a second plant-based restaurant – Hello 123 – in 2017, now in both Toronto and Montreal, as well as a natural wine bar spin-off, H123, in St-Henri.
Health-nut restaurants have been around for some time; we repackaged it as sexy quick-serve in convenient locations, at the dawn of a new era in health consciousness that no one predicted. We continue to look for the next neighbourhood to provide sustainable food to, and like-minded people to help get us there.
