As a native Montrealer, it was a very easy decision to choose McGill’s Schulich School of Music as my home for four years. Having a top music school in your own city is indeed a luxury! It was clear from the onset that I had made the right choice.

There is a certain dynamic of community and closeness among students in a music school that I think is very unique.”

I was very lucky to enjoy opportunities and experiences at McGill that prepared me for a career in music. My musical instruction was focused, rich and well-rounded. Weekly lessons, mock auditions and orchestral experience were instrumental in helping me attain my current position in the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

In addition, I met people that remain friends and colleagues to this day. There is a certain dynamic of community and closeness among students in a music school that I think is very unique. From classes, chamber music and large ensembles to interacting on the practice room floor, I always felt comforted that we were all in it together. Pursuing a career in music can be scary, so I encourage all students to support each other as much as possible.

I would say that my most treasured memory from my McGill days was playing Mahler’s third symphony with the MGSO under the inspiring baton of Alexis Hauser, and feeling completely overwhelmed by the beautiful music that surrounded me. In that moment, I was convinced that music would be my life.
