McGill was the only university to which I applied. After my high school years at Lisgar Collegiate in Ottawa, my family was proud to see me accepted to McGill. I have always wanted to be a doctor so after three years in Science, I was admitted into the Faculty of Medicine. I did all my medical studies there, all the way up to my Surgical Residency in Plastic Surgery. That’s why McGill is such an outstanding institution – it has the ability to take you through every step of your education and training. I wish everyone could have the McGill experience.
I made so many lasting friendships at McGill, though the most life-changing encounter was meeting my future wife Vivienne while we were both students. I would walk her back to her Royal Victoria College Annex residence where we would sit out on the doorstep, talking for hours. It was very romantic. We were married at Christ Church Cathedral and had our reception at the Ritz.
Most of my career in the field of plastic surgery has been in Toronto, but McGill has remained the backbone of my life. At the Faculty of Medicine, I have been a Visiting Professor and served on the Dean’s Medical Advisory Board. I believe that it’s important to give back and am very proud of the philanthropic initiatives that Vivienne and I have created, including an Endowed Postdoctoral Fellowship in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
