Making the world a classroom

For Catherine Potvin, solutions for climate change should not come from a lab. They should be developed and applied in collaboration with Indigenous peoples. A Professor in McGill’s Department of Biology, and Canada Research Chair on Climate Mitigation and Tropical Forests, Potvin has dedicated over 20 years to fieldwork in Panama, where she works closely with local inhabitants. Today she directs the Panama Field Study Semester, which provides about 25 McGill students per year with a unique experiential learning opportunity.
