What do you most look forward to when you return to McGill? What advice would you share with students who are arriving on campus for the first time? We asked a trio of legacy donors to share their thoughts, and their answers might surprise you.

What do you most look forward to when you visit McGill?
“As soon as I drive onto Macdonald Campus – and I have countless times for both professional and personal reasons – I have a great sense of pride and inner peace. It’s a magical place, and the magic transforms and evolves for every generation.”
Ann Louise Carson, BSc(Agr)’81, 200 for 200 Legacy Challenge donor
“I look forward to taking that sentimental walk through the Roddick Gates, wandering around, admiring the architecture of the historic buildings that I studied in, and dropping in on friends and connections.”
Sherrill Rand Harrison, BA’62, 200 for 200 Legacy Challenge donor
“Being on campus reminds me of the history of the space, and all the students that walked these steps before us. I have many treasured spots, but my number one is the Redpath Museum. Whenever I come back to Montreal with my family, this is always favoured by us."
Vanessa D’Souza, BSc(PT)’98, 200 for 200 Legacy Challenge donor

What advice do you have for students who are returning to McGill after a year away, or those who will be arriving for the very first time?
“This is a very complex time to be a student, and I hope one of the University’s priorities is providing them with the assurance and accessibility for everything they need to navigate the student experience. Whether it is stress, health issues, diversity issues or course advising, they need access to resources to have a normal, healthy student life – particularly if they are far from home and family.”
Sherrill Rand Harrison
“Say yes to everything. Explore, be adventurous, and soak it all in. Every opportunity is a gift.”
Vanessa D’Souza
“Get involved! It’s a privilege to have a McGill degree, but what served me even more are the leadership skills I learned by being involved in campus life. The best gift is lifelong friends: make them and keep in touch. I speak from experience when I say your Mac network will keep coming up in your career and life!”
