McGill's everyday heroes

Across the University community, you can find people working to bring about change

This year, McGill24 seeks to unite the McGill community around supporting the next generation of leaders and changemakers. There are so many alumni, students and staff, who are actively working to bring about change, whether on campus, in their local communities, or in the world. Those individuals – McGill’s everyday heroes – show how an investment in them can build a better future for all of us.

Here is just a sampling of heroic McGillians making a difference far and wide:

It takes a village: providing aid, one student at a time

SSAO team dressed up for McGill24

The dedicated employees at McGill’s Scholarships and Student Aid Office do essential behind-the-scenes work to ensure that students get the financial assistance they need. Their caseload has increased exponentially during the pandemic, but the team hasn’t missed a beat.

Shaping the future of special care dentistry

Chantal Czerednikow

Giving back to the community is at the core of Dr. Chantal Czerednikow’s daily work. She is passionate about creating the best possible dental care experience for people with autism and neurodevelopmental disorders, and she’s passing on her expertise to the next generation of dentists.

A student, a community, a movement: bringing meals to the neighbourhood

Chris Cinelli-Faia and Sophie Hart

Concerned about the impact of the pandemic on her unhoused neighbours, Arts student Sophie Hart decided to do something about it. After launching Meals for Milton-Parc, she found an ally in the McGill Men’s Soccer Team.

A creative approach to healthcare innovation

Simon Tarakovsky outside

Physics student Simon Tartakovsky loves building things that help people, and he sees his creativity as a way to make a difference in the healthcare field. Last year, he jumped at the chance to help fight COVID-19 by participating in a global ventilator-building competition launched at McGill.
