For me, McGill24 is a wonderful celebration of the thousands of people who study, work and teach at McGill, and a chance for the community to give back to their beloved institution.
A successful McGill24 crowdfunding campaign
In 2024, I helped launch a successful McGill24 campaign to create the Paul Farmer Lectureship and Award for Global Health Equity. The award honours individuals working in underserved communities whose work often goes unrecognized.
I was greatly inspired by Dr. Paul Farmer, who sadly passed away in 2022. To honour his amazing legacy in global health, I created this award in his name at McGill. The McGill24 crowdfunding platform turned out to be the perfect platform to raise funds. The fact that over 600 people donated is a sign that the campaign resonated with a lot of people. They cared about Paul Farmer, about McGill, and about our focus on honouring people who have done groundbreaking work in health equity. The first award was announced and will be received by Mr. Zackie Achmat, a renowned AIDS activist from South Africa.
The Paul Farmer Award campaign is still active and continuing to raise funds for this worthy cause.
McGill: Our amazing students
McGill is the first and only university I have ever worked at as a professor. I have always cherished my job and will remain grateful for all the support and encouragement the university has given me for nearly 20 years.
My favourite thing about being a professor at McGill is unquestionably and undeniably our amazing students. In particular, McGill undergrads are simply amazing to work with. They inspire me to teach global health and we work hard to support them via Global Health Programs and the School of Population and Global Health.
