Supporting McGill’s next 200 years

Chancellor John McCall MacBain has supported undergraduate and graduate students with landmark philanthropic gifts at McGill, and now he has added a legacy gift to his enduring commitment to the University

My McGill student experience was a formative time for me. As an undergraduate I led Welcome Week, then the Winter Carnival, and was elected president of the Students’ Society. Those leadership roles, coupled with my McGill education, helped me develop as a person and prepared me for future successes.

Today, I’m proud to be the first former student president to serve as the University’s Chancellor, and students are my top priority: encouraging them to come to McGill, and ensuring they have an excellent education.

This September, McGill welcomed the newest cohort of McCall MacBain Scholars – 20 graduate students from across Canada with the drive to make a positive impact in other peoples’ lives. My wife Marcy and I chose to establish the McCall MacBain Scholars program at McGill University because we believe McGill is a great investment: it’s been here for 200 years, and it will continue to be here in the future.

It’s also why we chose to leave a legacy gift to McGill. When you leave a legacy gift, such as a bequest in a will, you can be confident that it will go where you want it, be spent very efficiently, and make a positive impact on McGill communities both locally and abroad.

To all those who’ve already made their own legacy gift to McGill, thank you; I think you’ve made a wise decision. McGill has accomplished so much over the last 200 years, and thanks to you, it will achieve even more.
