Transforming student lives

Experiential learning, invaluable research opportunities, financial support when they need it most – legacy gifts help McGill students succeed

A spot in a distinguished program. A chance to take on a leadership role. The opportunity to pursue their dream career. These are just a few of the ways legacy gifts are transforming students’ lives, and paving the way for McGill’s third century.

A legacy gift – such as a bequest left in a will – can open doors and enrich the learning experiences of generations of McGill students. The University was founded by a legacy gift, and it’s celebrating its Bicentennial with the 200 for 200 Legacy Challenge, which aims to secure 200 new gifts in 2021.

Below are just a few student success stories from the 2020-21 academic year; all bursaries, scholarships and awards were funded by legacy donors.

Thanks to your generosity, my lifelong dream of attending McGill University is moving forward. Without scholarship patrons willing to support education, students such as myself would be unable to pursue advanced business degrees.”

Tarek El-Béaino, BCom student. Recipient of the Lutfy Bursary.

My scholarship has been extremely valuable to my academic success and involvement this year. As a full-time student and an executive of the Music Undergraduate Student Association, I am tremendously thankful for the opportunity to have some of the financial burden covered by this scholarship. I would like to sincerely thank the Blume family for their contribution.”

Yuki Landry, Music student. Recipient of the Helmut Blume Memorial Scholarship.
