McGill gave me, a non-alumnus (I went to Princeton), an opportunity to contribute to this great institution in so many ways.

My connection with McGill has been as a professor, director of the Dobson Centre, visiting lecturer, supporter of the Library (especially the Blacker-Wood Library of Zoology and Ornithology, as the donor of the more than 50,000 natural history stamps, the accompanying exhibitions and five books), chairman of the McCord Museum, president of the McGill Associates, and as an ambassador and lecturer representing McGill as an Honorary Life Member of the McGill Associates. I was thrilled to have been named Distinguished Professor of Business, and receive the Principal’s Prize for Excellence in Teaching in the Faculty Lecturer category.

But, when all is said and done, it is my students who have given back to me more than I ever could have given to McGill. They enriched me beyond measure. And they gave me my ultimate hope for humanity.
