As a student at McGill in Mechanical Engineering, I was first impressed and inspired by the teaching excellence. I still remember vividly the academic rigor and discipline of Prof. Knystautas in Mechanics, the engagement and energy of Prof. Baliga in Heat Transfer, and the integrity and kindness of Prof. Cherna in the Machine Tool Lab.
The opportunities for personal growth and development were everywhere on campus. I served as a Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) student officer and enrolled in the McGill Solar Car team. I participated in the design team and led fundraising efforts to enable our team to participate in the world solar car competition in Australia. Team building and leadership experiences were key building blocks for me in understanding the importance of entrepreneurship skills to successfully deliver on new product development projects and to reach the finish line (motivating me to also complete a minor in management).
I am glad to be able to give back to the University and to help the next generation as a mentor, advisor, or angel investor.”
The McGill multi-cultural environment was very enriching with many lasting friendships. I discovered McGill Aikido (Japanese Martial Art) under the leadership of Sensei Daniel Laurendeau, where I continued to practice and teach for 20 years. The overall McGill experience was instrumental in developing my critical thinking, leadership, and discipline, which helped me throughout my careers in engineering, business, and investment management.
After four years as a design engineer on new aircraft engines, I had the privilege to attend Harvard Business School for my MBA. My McGill education and work experiences prepared me well for the HBS general management program. With my MBA, industry experience, and analytical skills, I was able to pivot my career to the exciting world of investment management. As a portfolio manager and fundamental investor, I covered a broad spectrum of sectors throughout the years and built an extensive network of industry contacts (including many McGill alumni) in developed and emerging markets.
I am honored to serve as a member of the Faculty of Engineering Advancement Board. McGill broadened my perspective inside and outside the classroom. I am glad to be able to give back to the University and to help the next generation as a mentor, advisor, or angel investor.
