Mediocrity is something that McGill taught me would never be acceptable. The school affirmed in me the need to strive to be the best I could possibly be.

Applied Investments, the course I took with Ken Lester, was especially formative. Many applied; few got in. Ken had real money (!), from an endowment fund, to invest on behalf of the Faculty, and we students did our research and made recommendations to Ken on what he should buy. It was priceless hands-on experience which reinforced what I wanted to do in life, and has informed my work daily in more than 15 years as a portfolio manager.

Sujata Madan also made a big impact on me. She taught me my introductory finance classes. All these years later, she still reaches out to me on Facebook, asking how I am doing. That’s how much she cares.

I believe it has always been the norm in society for men to take care of the financial decisions in a household, but we need to challenge the status quo.”

The intense support I received from these and other professors inspired me to take on a leadership role of the McGill Investment Club. In 2008, our committee founded the Toronto convention that is still an annual landmark event; the inaugural edition featured a stellar roster of speakers including BMO Chief Economist Douglas Porter.

McGill gave me the opportunity to make my mark then, and ever since. I believe it has always been the norm in society for men to take care of the financial decisions in a household, but we need to challenge the status quo. Every woman deserves honest unbiased financial advice and guidance.

So I specialize in working with women. And since my graduation in 2009, I have been delivering educational seminars to women investors at various companies and associations, including the McGill Women's Alumnae Association – which is closest to my heart.
