McGill was the only school I applied to. I considered it the best institution in the country with its rich history, exceptional student body and alumni network, and cutting-edge facilities.
I was also struck by the sense of community and belonging that McGill fostered during my time as a student. It was an honour being the first engineering undergrad elected to serve as the Secretary-General of McMUN, one of the largest Model UN conferences in the world. The best moment was seeing the culmination of a year’s worth of work that brought together 500 staff members from the McGill community to create an unforgettable experience for 1,500 global delegates. We were also awarded best North American Model UN conference of the year.
Through this experience and many others, McGill provided me with the foundation to succeed in my career, and I knew that I wanted to continue to be a part of this community even after graduation.
As an alumnus, I remain committed to the University's ethos of community service and social responsibility. For me, service to this University has been a way of giving back to an institution that has given me so much. It has been a way of showing my appreciation for the education that I received, the relationships that I formed, and the opportunities that were presented to me. To this day, it seems no matter where in the world I travel to, I will reconnect with a fellow McGillian and be amazed at the incredible endeavours they are pursuing.
Beyond McGill, my focus is on supporting equity-deserving youth through volunteering, mentoring, and fundraising, particularly through my education non-profit, UpstartED. My personal experiences growing up with systemic barriers drives my passion for this work, and I hope to provide these youth with the tools and support necessary to succeed.
