My journey at McGill began 50 years ago, with my first position in the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, after which I had the privilege of working in a variety of faculties.
One of the department heads who knew my work pointed out that my forte, and greatest contribution, would be working directly with people, not for people. This motivated me to help students in difficulty. I demonstrated the need for case management in the Office of the Dean of Students and became the first Case Manager, Crisis Response.
Helping people gives me a sense of pride and self-worth, and knowing that I can make a difference in a student’s life and future motivates me.
During my years as a McGill employee, I’ve seen how the university goes the extra mile to care for its students. I have also learned and encouraged others to accept help when it’s needed, and pay it forward when someone else asks for help. The graduation of every student whom I have helped brings a smile to my face. I am grateful that I can contribute to the smile on their faces.
