Ana Maria Klein, PhD’00; Emeritus Professor, SUNY Fredonia

In 2000, I attained my PhD at McGill University, and my experiences there made me the caring, conscientious, and innovative STEM educator that I am today. During my dissertation years, I was a participant observer at various Montreal elementary and middle schools. Back then, I was fortunate to experience and document best practices in mathematics and science education, such as robotics and the game of chess as a teaching tool.  As a Teaching Assistant at the School of Educational Studies, I enjoyed participating in creative mathematics and science laboratories that guided me to my area of specialization and to a subsequent career at SUNY Fredonia, where I am currently Emeritus Professor. While at McGill, I was also a Max Stern fellow, an award for which I am very grateful.

At McGill, I became a scholar with opportunities to explore, narrate, and share my findings and perspectives with peers. I was also encouraged by the dynamic team of professors to explore the world, attend conferences, and share my work in progress. Twenty years later, I not only have the multiple forums, publications, and experiences but a huge sense of gratitude for what this world-renowned University offered me.
